Scope and Contents
This collection consists mainly of the papers and extensive research notes of long-time journalism professor Alfred O. Gray. Included in the collection are miscellaneous Whitworth History documents, correspondence to and from Gray, Academic Cabinet and Board records, Faculty records, Honors Council records, Student records, and Alumni records. Also included are personal records and articles about Gray and his wife, Nicolin J. Gray, and his son, Richard Gray.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Alfred Orrin Gray taught journalism at Whitworth College from 1946 until his retirement in 1980. During his time at Whitworth, Gray served as the advisor for the student newspaper, the Whitworthian. He earned many awards while serving in that position.
Gray wrote the first history of Whitworth College. While researching for this book, Not by Might, Gray collected many copies of college records and took numerous notes.
