Biographical / Historical

"Born in Socorro, New Mexico and raised in Kirkland, Washington, Dr. Hunt came to Whitworth in 1973 after teaching humanities at the University of Washington. He also served as a professional academic and pre-law advisor for the U of W's College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Hunt has been awarded the Burlington Northern Award for Teaching Excellence and has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Washington Commission for the Humanities, and the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education. He and his wife, Linda, have loved their travels to Mexico, Central America, Spain, Berlin, London, Japan, and Korea.

Jim writes American biographies, having published articles on John Quincy Addams, Frederick Douglass and Jane Addams. He currently teaches courses in U.S. and world history including US History to 1877, Early American and Nineteenth Century American History, Pacific Northwest History, Latin American History, Senior Seminar (Ideas About History), and Revolutions in History. Dr. Hunt's office betrays his love of books and ideas with Stella's Brooklyn Bridge, and Northwest Native American Art, a Guatemalan weaving. His favorite mail is postcards from present and former students who have written to him from all over the world including London, Italy, Nepal, and Morrocco."
