Biographical / Historical

Construction of the Grand Coulee Dam began in 1933 and was completed January 1, 1942. The dam was part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal program which provided jobs for Americans out of work during the Great Depression. After the dam was completed, the power it generated helped produce aluminum to build World War II planes and provided power to the Hanford Site which was a prominent figure in the production of the atomic bomb.
