Biographical / Historical

Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church (HPPC) was organized December 2, 1956 and originally called Christ United Presbyterian. Its original address was East 2128 Thurston, and its organizing pastor was Russell Booher (pastored 1956-1959). The name was changed to its current title in 1961 under the leadership of Don Cornish (pastored 1960-1963). By 1963 the church ran financially independent of missionary aid. Several ministers served at HPPC since and the church has been on a trajectory of growth. This caused a building campaign in the 1992 entitled “Lift High the Cross,” which raised $550,000 in pledges over the course of three years. The first worship service held in the new building was on December 17, 1995. Since the construction of the new structure HPPC has expanded through increased membership and youth programs.
